Shadowboxes

My mom taught me to embroider when I was a small girl. Then came sewing, crocheting, knitting. Later on I became a weaver. Working with textiles aligned with my tendencies towards perfection; something that the shadow boxes take full advantage of.

Making these small pieces of work has been joyous. Small, disparate pieces with past lives finding a new one. I like the perceived limitations of the rectangle, and that the items visibly balance without worrying about how they do so physically. Framing the works allows the viewer to focus on the small items, looking, often for the first time, at their design, function, and material.
